Ground Water Monitoring

Data Summary The Redwood County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) conducted a baseline inventory of ground water in 1990 by testing 459 wells for nitrates, bacteria and other parameters. The county continues to monitor 30 wells for nitrates. Brown-Nicollet-Cottonwood Ground Water Project, Phase I - Diagnostic (CWP) includes data from the monitoring of fifty-nine ground water wells, located within the three study areas, from 1990-1991. Analysis included the following parameters: nitrate/nitrite-nitrogen, coliform bacteria, anions and cations, pesticides and tritium. Additional field tests were performed whenever possible. Static water level was measured in selected wells in each study area. Brown-Nicollet-Cottonwood Ground Water Project, Phase II - Implementation (CWP) includes data from bimonthly monitoring of fifteen original west and east study area water wells for nitrates from 1993 to 1996. Static water level continues to be monitored in these wells. A rural drinking water survey of the three counties was completed in 1994 to overview levels of 27 parameters in rural wells. Collection of samples occurred from fifteen wells geographically spaced in the counties.
