The Streams and Rivers of Minnesota

Waters, Thomas F.
Organized by Minnesota's major watersheds, this book provides useful information on such aspects of the state's rivers as geological origins, ecological characteristics, and historical events. The chapter on the Minnesota River includes a discussion of the Sioux Uprising of 1862, the formation of the valley by the Glacial River Warren, notable natural characteristics of the river, primary tributaries, early exploration, fish and wildlife, and recreational uses.

Minnesota's Geology

Ojakangas, Richard W
Intended to serve as a companion to Schwartz and Thiel's 1954 Minnesota's Rocks and Waters, this volume seeks to present additional geological knowledge gained since that year. Written in an accessible style, the book consists of sections on geologic history, mineral resources, and regional geography. It includes a detailed discussion of the formation of the Minnesota River Valley following the retreat of the last glaciers from Minnesota, as well as a discussion of rock types and selected places of geological interest in the valley.
