The project area includes all minor watersheds within the Redwood River Major Watershed (27).
The Redwood River Clean Water Project was a Phase I - Diagnostic, MPCA Clean Water Partnership Project. The project was initiated in 1989, approved in 1990 and completed in 1993. The Redwood, Cottonwood Rivers Control Area (RCRCA) was the project sponsor and the following were project cooperators: County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs), the Lake Redwood Improvement Association, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources (BWSR), Area II Minnesota River Basin Projects Inc., Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resouces (DNR). The purpose of this project is to investigate sedimentation in Lake Redwood. This is accomplished through a three-year monitoring program, documentation of streambank erosion along the Redwood River, analysis of soil types and land use practices within a two mile cooridor of the river and selected tributaries, and a fishery survey to evaluate habitat suitability and species diversity.

Surface Water Quality Monitoring
| Data Summary |
Redwood River Clean Water Project, Phase I - Diagnostic (CWP) includes surface water quality data collected at seven automated sampling stations throughout the watershed from 1990-1992. Collection of storm event and baseline samples occurred and the number of samples taken from each site varies. Collection of in-lake water quality samples occurred four times a year at two sites in Lake Redwood from 1990-1992. Analysis included the following chemical and physical parameters: Total Phosphorus, Total Suspended Solids, Total Volatile Suspended Solids, Nitrate/Nitrite-Nitrogen, Ammonia, pH, Conductivity, Temperature, and Color. Analysis of in-lake samples occurred for these additional parameters: Orthophosphate, Chlorophyll-a, Transparency, and Bacteria (1992 only). |
