Little Cottonwood River Restoration Project, Phase I - Diagnostic (CWP)

Minor watershed number(s):   28057, 28080, 28081, 28084, 28085, 28086, 28087, 28088, 28089, 28090, 28091, 28097

The project area is the Little Cottonwood River watershed which includes minor watersheds 28057, 28080, 28081, 28084, 28085, 28086, 28087, 28088, 28089, 28090, 28091, and 28097.

The Little Cottonwood River Restoration Project is Phase I - Diagnostic, MPCA Clean Water Partnership Project, originally funded from 1997-1999. Funding was later extended to the year 2000. The project is sponsored by the Brown-Nicollet-Cottonwood Water Quality Joint Powers Board with the following contributing sponsors: Brown-Nicollet Environmental Health, Extension Service, SWCD's, Environmental Offices, Planning and Zoning for Brown and Cottonwood Counties, Regional and area Department of Natural Resources Staff (DNR), Regional Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources Staff (BWSR), and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). The overall goal of this project is to encourage land use changes within the watershed that will reduce nutrient and sediment loading into the Little Cottonwood River. The purpose of this diagnostic study is to document factors affecting the hydrology and chemistry of the Little Cottonwood River and develop realistic reduction goals essential to the creation of an implementation plan which will help meet downstream water quality objectives for the Minnesota River.
