The project area is the Lake Shaokatan lakeshed which is located in minor watershed 25147 within the Hawk Creek-Yellow Medicine River Major Watershed.

This study is a component of the Lake Shaokatan Restoration Project. It is sponsored by the Yellow Medicine River Watershed District and completed by personnel from the Limnological Research Center at the University of Minnesota in 1993. The purpose of this study is to survey bottom sediments in the lake to assess the potential for internal nutrient loading and to reconstruct the history of trophic change in the lake.

Data Summary Lake Shaokatan Sediment-Phosphorus Study includes data from sampling lake bottom sediments at 12 stations throughout the lake. A single sediment core, 48 cm in length, was collected from the deepest area of the basin. The 12 sediment samples and three core intervals included analysis for iron and phosphorus.
