The Streams and Rivers of Minnesota
Publisher:
University of Minnesota Press
Organized by Minnesota's major watersheds, this book provides useful information on such aspects of the state's rivers as geological origins, ecological characteristics, and historical events. The chapter on the Minnesota River includes a discussion of the Sioux Uprising of 1862, the formation of the valley by the Glacial River Warren, notable natural characteristics of the river, primary tributaries, early exploration, fish and wildlife, and recreational uses. A chapter on the "Southwest" includes additional discussion of several rivers feeding into the Minnesota (the Lac Qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Redwood, and Cottonwood); the Blue Earth Rivers, another major tributary, occupies a chapter of its own.
