Data Summary The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) administers the statewide permitting program for above and underground storage tanks and maintains a database of tank permits. These data can be searched by county, zip code, address or tank ID# on the MPCA website and can be distributed in hard copy or electronic document format upon request.

Data Summary Hazardous Waste Generator data is available by county, zip code, address, type of industry, type of waste, or quantity of waste. These data are available for only current generators. Hazardous waste generator locations are limited to address except for Large Quantity Generators and Treatment, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) Facilities which have addresses converted to lat/long and plotted in ARC/INFO.

Hazardous Waste Sites

Data Summary The following are types of hazardous waste sites in Minnesota: Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup (VIC) Sites (searchable on the MPCA website); Brownfields (abandoned, idled, or underused industrial and commercial properties where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by actual or suspected environmental contamination); Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Information System (CERCLIS) Sites (federally listed, potential or actual hazardous waste sites which are candidates for addition to the federal and state Superfund list); and Permanent List of Priorities (PLP) Sites (state listing of verified hazardous waste sites which represent a threat to public health or the environment). Additional information on hazardous waste sites in Minnesota is available from the MPCA’s website. Hazardous waste site data are available in hard copy format or ASCII files by county or city.

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Program

Data Summary The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) maintains an inventory of NPDES permits in the state of Minnesota. Data Summary Superfund sites are abandoned or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites where a release or potential release of a hazardous substance poses a risk to human health or the environment. One can search the Superfund database on the MPCA website mainly by county or address. Requests for queries of a larger area may require a nominal fee. This data is updated on an annual basis.
