Area II Flood Abatement/Control Projects

Area II Minnesota River Basin Projects, Inc. administers a nine-county joint powers agreement to implement flood control recommendations outlined in the Minnesota River Basin Report and Public Law 87-639 Study. This joint powers agreement is signed by Brown, Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood, and Yellow Medicine counties. The Area II office holds construction, pool, project acreage, storage and hydrograph data for each floodwater retarding/retention structure completed in the project area. Since 1979, nine reservoirs and a number of other floodwater retarding/retention structures have been constructed.
