Fish Consumption Advisory Program
| Data Summary |
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) coordinate this program. The DNR collects and analyzes fish tissue samples and the MDH prepares a risk assessment/evaluation using the raw data. Sampling is performed when certain factors are present that may increase the likelihood of contamination. Data are distributed in ASCII or Excel files.

Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program
| Data Summary |
Fish contaminant monitoring is completed in conjunction with lake surveys. Additional monitoring is done on streams and lakes in areas of known contamination. Historical data goes back to the 1970’s, data from 1990 to present is in a searchable database. Six area offices are in the process of surveying 18 sectors of the Minnesota River main stream. The DNR collects the fish tissue samples and analyzes them for various contaminants such as heavy metals or PCB’s and gives the raw data to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). The MDH uses the raw data to prepare a risk assessment/evaluation for the Department of Health’s Fish Consumption Advisory Program.
