Land Cover / Land Use

Data Summary Le Sueur County Planning and Zoning is completing an updated countywide land cover/land use inventory. Rice County Planning and Zoning completed a countywide land use/land cover survey in 1998. This survey will be entered into GIS. The Scott County Surveyor's Office inventories and updates land cover/land use information from aerial photography flown in areas of the county in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998. This information includes buildings, roads, trails, wetlands, contours, drainage ways, driveways, shorelines, swamps and wooded areas. The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) completed a countywide land cover/land use survey in 1996.

Precipitation Monitoring

Data Summary Le Sueur County participates in the Minnesota State Climatology Office Rain Guage Network. Rice County participates in the Minnesota State Climatology Office Rain Guage Network. Scott County participates in the Minnesota State Climatology Office Rain Guage Network. SCMCCWPP sponsors a volunteer rain guage reader network. This volunteer rain guage reader network reports daily precipitation during the growing season (May through September) to their county Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). These data are sent to the Water Resources Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato, for entry into the Minnesota State Climatology database and for generation of contour precipitation maps. These data have been collected since 1992.
