The purpose of this reconnaissance study is to evaluate the potential for Federal interest in implementing solutions to flooding, navigation, low flow augmentation, recreation, ecosystem restoration, and other related water resource problems and opportunities in the Minnesota River Basin (MRB) in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa.

A reconnaissance study approved in January 2005 recommended three initial feasibility studies: two ecosystem restoration feasibility studies (Blue Earth River and Marsh Lake) and an integrated watershed study that would produce a watershed management plan and decision support system for the entire Minnesota River basin. All three recommended studies have now been initiated.
