The project area includes all minor watersheds of the Chippewa River Major Watershed (26) located within the following counties: Chippewa, Douglas, Grant, Kandiyohi, Pope, Stevens, and Swift.

The Chippewa River Watershed Project is a Phase I - Diagnostic, MPCA Clean Water Partnership Project, funded in 1998 through the year 2000. The project is sponsored by Chippewa County. Contributing sponsors include: Chippewa, Douglas, Grant, Kandiyohi, Pope, Stevens, and Swift Counties, Water Planners, and Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs); Prairie Country and WesMin Resource Conservation and Development Councils (RC&Ds); Land Stewardship Project; US Geological Survey, Agricultural Research Services; and the Benson Wastewater Treatment Plant. The goals of the project are to assess water quality and land use through a cooperative partnership and citizen based approach and to achieve widespread public support for Clean Water Implementation Projects. There are no data to report at this stage of the Diagnostic Study.
