The project area is the Lake Shaokatan lakeshed which is located in minor watershed 25147 in the Hawk Creek-Yellow Medicine River Major Watershed.
The Lake Shaokatan Restoration Project was a Phase II - Implementation, MPCA Clean Water Partnership Project, funded in 1993 and completed in 1995. The Yellow Medicine River Watershed District in cooperation with the Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Shaokatan Lakeshore Association, Verdi Sportsman Club, Lincoln County Water Task Force, Lincoln County, Shaokatan Sportsman Club, Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Farm Service Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Ducks Unlimited sponsored the implementation phase of this Clean Water Partnership Project. In-lake monitoring continued throughout this Phase II - Implementation project. Implementation priorities included feedlot containment systems, wetland restorations, livestock exclusions, drain tile rerouting, and best management practices (BMPs).
