Le Sueur River Watershed Subwatershed Strategies

Bull Run Subwatershed Strategy,
Le Sueur River Watershed

Abstract
This predominantly agricultural subwatershed with poorly drained soils has a history of flooded farm fields in the lower reaches of the subwatershed.  The subwatershed strategy provides an overview of watershed characteristics, community perspectives, and summarizes subwatershed goals. The strategy couples citizen perspectives with GIS conservation targeting tools (ACPF and PTMApp) to clarify opportunities for flood amelioration and pollutant reduction.

Farm America: Waseca County Ditch 19 Subwatershed Strategy,
Le Sueur River Watershed

Abstract
Waseca County Ditch 19 (CD 19) runs through one of Minnesota’s premier agricultural outreach institutions – FarmAmerica. CD 19 is part of the larger “Farm America” subwatershed that eventually drains to the Le Sueur River Watershed. This subwatershed Strategy was initiated by CD 19 landowner and Le Sueur River Watershed Network steering committee member who sought to create a water storage demonstration site on his property in CD 19. The subwatershed strategy provides an overview of watershed characteristics, community perspectives, and summarizes subwatershed goals. The strategy includes GIS conservation targeting tools (ACPF and PTMApp) to clarify opportunity areas for water storage.

Freeborn Lake Subwatershed Strategy,
Le Sueur River Watershed

Abstract
This subwatershed strategy addresses a lakeshed with a long history of elevated phosphorus levels and algae blooms in the Le Sueur River Watershed. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) recently completed a Lake Management Plan that included a lake draw down and dam replacement to support wildlife in the lake. A citizen group, Future of Freeborn Lake, is motivated to maintain the improved water quality. A goal of the management plan is for “Local, state and federal agencies and citizen and non-profit groups target implementation of conservation programs and practices in the watershed of Freeborn Lake.” The strategy includes an overview of subwatershed characteristics, community perspectives, and subwatershed goals. Geographic Information System (GIS) targeting tools provide an overview of pollution reduction strategies to reduce phosphorus loads in the subwatershed.

River Park Drive Subwatershed Strategy,
Le Sueur River Watershed

Abstract
River Park Drive Subwatershed is located in the lower reaches of the Le Sueur River Watershed where increased flows are causing river bank erosion and property loss. Leaders in the Le Sueur River Watershed Network are raising awareness about the personal impacts of this more erosive river on property owners and are working to find water storage solutions and funding. The document provides an overview of watershed characteristics, community perspectives, and summarizes subwatershed goals. The strategy includes GIS conservation targeting tools (ACPF and PTMApp) to clarify opportunities for water storage upstream.
