Borehole Geophysics Database

Data Summary The MGS has logged over one million feet of borehole at almost 3,000 locations in Minnesota. These geophysical records are commonly utilized for subsurface geologic investigations, stratigraphic analysis, and studies of groundwater. The Borehole Geophysics Database includes information about stratigraphy, length of well casing, and static water level. The wells in the Borehole Geophysics Database are also included in the County Well Index (CWI) by unique ID#.

Ground Water Monitoring and Assessment Program (GWMAP)

Data Summary The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) administers the Ground Water Monitoring and Assessment Program (GWMAP)in Minnesota. The purpose of the GWMAP is to collect, analyze, and interpret ground water chemical data from the state’s major aquifers to define ambient conditions and trends, determine effectiveness of pollution control efforts, and conduct problem investigations where needed. Elements of the GWMAP include a statewide baseline network, trends studies, and regional monitoring cooperatives. Parameters measured through GWMAP include major cations and anions, 40 metals, 68 volatile organic compounds, pesticides, tritium, and field measurements. Some historical ground water monitoring data from GWMAP is entered into Storet.

Ground Water Monitoring Program for Nutrients and Pesticides

Data Summary The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) monitored a number of domestic, irrigation, and observation wells quarterly, from 1986-1996. Samples were analyzed for pesticides and nitrate-nitrogen. A few springs and streams were also monitored during base flow. The MDA is in the process or re-designing this well monitoring network and adding new wells which will be located by GPS. Sampling of the re-designed monitoring network will begin in the fall of 1999.
