Prairie Enthusiast Hike - Bison

Sunday, August 23, 2015
4 p.m.

Soon Minneopa State Park will be home for a bison herd.  At one time millions of bison roamed North America including much of Minnesota.  On August 23rd (Sunday) at 4 p.m. join Molly Tranel Nelson, Region Resource Specialist and Scott Kudelka, Minneopa Area Naturalist for a walk through what will become the bison pasture.

Nelson and Kudelka will talk about some of the components of this project including patch burn grazing, determining the number of bison and how this animal grazes prairie.  In addition they will tell the story of the bison and how the largest mammal found in North America has made an amazing comeback.

Please meet at the parking lot halfway up the Seppman Mill Road on the Campground Side of Minneopa State Park.  Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for outdoor hiking and weather conditions.

The event is co-sponsored by the Many Rivers Chapter of the Prairie Enthusiasts, a private organization committed to the protection and management of native prairie and savanna of the Upper Midwest. We have an incorporated, nonprofit status and are a grass roots organization run mainly by volunteers.
