By 1938:
  • Using scanned and rectified historical aerial photography, researchers estimate that approximately 5,863 wetland acres remained;
  • Small networks of open-channel drainage ditches were visible in the 1937/38 aerial photos; and
  • Artificial channels were dug to drain marshes into Seven Mile Creek.
