Minnesota River Assessment Project (MRAP): Biological and Toxicological Assessment - Assessment of Impact of Organic Pollutants on Fish in the Minnesota River Watershed by Hepatic Aminopyrine N-Demethylase Activity

Collection of samples for this study occurred from four sites within the Minnesota River Basin.

The Biological and Toxicological Assessment component of the Minnesota River Assessment Project (MRAP) includes studies which assist in defining existing conditions in the Minnesota River and it's tributaries. This organic pollutant study is completed as a part of the Biological and Toxicological component of the Minnesota River Assessment Project (MRAP). The study attempts to correlate impacts of organic chemicals on fish to those presently found in the Minnesota River system. Collection of fish samples from four sites within the Minnesota River Basin occurred in the fall of each year from 1989-1992. Two sites are located on the Minnesota River mainstem and two on upstream tributaries.

Biological Monitoring

Data Summary MRAP Biological and Toxicological Assessment - Assessment of Impact of Organic Pollutants on Fish in the Minnesota River Watershed by Hepatic Aminopyrine N-Demethylase Activity includes data from surface and internal organ morphology recordings of each fish sample collected. PCB analysis was performed using fish fillet tissue and scales and microsomal activity assays were performed on liver tissue samples.
