The project area is the Lake Hanska lakeshed, including minor watersheds 31041, 31043, and 31053 located within the Watonwan River Major Watershed.

This project is funded through Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) Challenge Grants with additional funding coming from the local level. Project sponsors are Brown and Watonwan Counties. The project began in 1995 and is currently funded through 1999. The purpose of this project is to improve water quality in Lake Hanska and maintain its recreational value.

Surface Water Quality Monitoring

Data Summary Lake Hanska Water Quality Improvement Project includes surface water quality data collected during baseling flow from two in-lake and a number of inlet sampling sites since 1995. Sample analysis includes the following parameters: nitrate-nitrogen, phosphate, total phosphorus, orthophosphorus, total suspended solids, total coliform, fecal coliform, and fecal streptococci. Samples collected included the following field measurements: conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and temperature.
