MRBDC Lake Ballantyne - Lake Assessment Program

MINNESOTA RIVER BASIN DATA CENTER

Lake Ballantyne - Lake Assessment Program

Minor watershed number(s):   28033

The project area is the Lake Ballantyne lakeshed of minor watershed 28033 located within the Middle Minnesota River Major Watershed.

The Lake Ballantyne project was completed throught the MPCA Lake Assessment Program (LAP) in 1994. A LAP report includes general information about a lake's trophic status, factors affecting nutrient input to the lake (such as land cover/land use or point source pollution potential), fisheries health, water quality, historical trend analysis and watershed assessment modeling.

Surface Water Quality Monitoring

Data Summary Lake Ballantyne - Lake Assessment Project (LAP) includes surface water quality data collected five times from two in-lake sites for baseline conditions during the 1994 sampling season. Sample analysis includes total phosphorus, total kjeldahl nitrogen, nitrate/nitrite-nitrogen, chloride, suspended solids, total suspended inorganic solids, alkalinity, color and turbidity.

Watershed Assessment

Data Summary Lake Ballantyne - Lake Assessment Project (LAP) includes data from a watershed assessment which uses the Minnesota Lake Eutrophication Analysis Procedure (MINLEAP) model to assess changes in the quality of the lake resulting from altered nutrient inputs or altered flow. The model incorporates water quality, point source pollution potential, land cover/land use, inflow and outflow data in the assessment.
