Area Location and Definition:

The project site is located along Porter Creek, which is a DNR protected watercourse in Scott County. Porter Creek is a tributary of Sand Creek which flows to the Minnesota River. The project site is in NW 1/4 Section 34, Township 114N, Range 23W, Sand Creek Township. This site lies within the Lower Minnesota River Major Watershed, minor watershed 33133.  The landowner is Doug Carlson.

Project Description:

Photograph of project area The Carlson Streambank Stabilization Project controls erosion and sedimentation problems at an actively eroding streambank site within Porter Creek, a tributary of Sand Creek in Scott County. The project protects the landowner's property from further degradation and provides a restoration demonstration site to the public using cable concrete, rip rap, and bio-engineering practices available to reduce non-point source pollution. Sand Creek has been identified as a high priority watershed for non-point source pollution to the Minnesota River by the Scott SWCD, Sand Creek Watershed Management Organization (SCWMO), and the Metropolitian Council. The landowner and the SWCD will monitor the site and have the responsibility of any needed repairs to insure the long term stability of the project.
