Area Location and Definition:

The project area includes the Lower Minnesota River Watershed and Middle Minnesota River Watershed within the Minnesota River Basin in Le Sueur County.

Project Description:

The Blind Tile Inlet Project replaces approximately 100 surface tile inlets in the Minnesota River Watershed with rock inlets by June 30th, 2001. Studies have shown rock inlets to reduce loading of sediment by 1/2 and phosphorous by 2/3. The project design involves a muck pipe inlet buried below ground in 4 cubic yards of pea rock. The installation is an affordable conservation practice, applicable to the hundreds of tile intlets throughout the watershed in Le Sueur County, for an overall improvement of water quality in the Minnesota River Basin. The Le Sueur SWCD will supervise the installations and provide the design, with the landowners to maintain a good rock filter.
