Sub Watershed

High Island Creek Watersheds a sub watershed in the Minnesota River Basin, one of nine major basins found in Minnesota. A sub watershed is a grouping of minor watersheds.
 

Lower Minnesota Major Watershed

Minor watersheds are grouped into major watersheds. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has delineated 81 minor watersheds, each associated with an individual river or stream reach (or Lake Superior). High Island Creek is within the Lower Minnesota Major Watershed. Rush River is the largest of the sub watersheds.
 





Major Watersheds

The Lower Minnesota Watershed is one of 12 major watersheds in the Minnesota River Basin. It is the third largest major watershed in the basin with a total of 1,165,229 acres.

 

Minnesota River Basin

A basin is a grouping of major watersheds. This basin drains approximately 20 percent of Minnesota (roughly 15,000 square miles). High Island Creek flows into the Minnesota River north of Henderson.
 
Mississippi River Basin

The
Minnesota River drains into the Mississippi River at Fort Snelling near St. Paul after flowing more than 335 miles from its source at Big Stone Lake. The Minnesota River Basin is part of the larger Mississippi River Basin which drains 40 percent of the continental United States.
