Wildlife Management Areas
 

Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) are also found within the watershed, comprising of 11 different tracks and a total of 1,133 acres. These management areas are an attempt to preserve wildlife habitat, primary wetlands, that have been destroyed by development and agricultural production. Bald Eagles, Red Tail Hawks, Turkey Vultures, Wild Turkeys and many species of song birds can be found in the watershed boundaries.

* Oak Isle (926) - 91 acres
* Boerner (1035) - 26 acres
* Vale (1197) - 300 acres
* Proehl's Woods (1503) - 134 acres
* Severance Lake (1610) - 54 acres
* Arlington (1621) - 20 acres
* Spiering (147) - 50 acres
* Kujas (549) - 116 acres
* Prieve (732) - 40 acres
* Bakers (870) - 294 acres
* Deutsch (931) - 80 acres

 


 
Hillard Dehning WPA
 


 
    The Hillard Dehing Waterfowl Production Area located just off County Hwy 12 and near Silver Lake.

Wildlife Management Areas are key to:
* protecting wildlife habitat for future generations,
* providing citizens with opportunities for hunting, fishing and wildlife watching
* promoting important wildlife-based tourism in the state.

In addition to the various WMA's, there are a number of Waterfowl Production Areas (WPA) in High Island Creek Watershed including Hillard Dehning WPA and High Island WPA. Waterfowl Production Areas are wetlands and grasslands set aside for the production of waterfowl and wildlife species. They are part of the National Wildlife Refuge System and managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
