High Island Creek Monitoring Site 10P Major Findings of Sampleshed 9P and Sampleshed 10P

  • As part of the steeply, erodible Minnesota River Valley blufflands, we find high levels of Total Phosphorus and Total Suspended Solids.  This is a result of excessive drainage in the upper watershed as increased levels of water cause intensive erosion in the ravines and gullies of this sampleshed.

  • Nitrate (NO2+NO3-N) levels have shown a steady increase from excessive drainage in the upper watershed and use of fertilizers in cropland.

  • Fecal Coliform Bacteria levels exceed Minnesota’s health standard of 200 colony forming units per 100 milligrams of water throughout the watershed.
