The project area is the Little Cottonwood River Watershed within Cottonwood County, including portions of minor watersheds 28080, 28081, 28090, and 28097.

In 1998, the Cottonwood County NRCS Office received funding to create a EQIP priority management area in the Cottonwood County portion of the Little Cottonwood River Watershed. The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) provides technical, educational, and financial assistance to farmers for the implementation of environmentally friendly farming practices.
