The project area includes minor watersheds 28045 and 28046, located in the Middle Minnesota River Major Watershed within Blue Earth County.
The Crystal Loon Mills Lakes Restoration Project was a Phase I - Diagnostic, MPCA Clean Water Partnership Project initiated in 1994 and completed in 1998. The Blue Earth County Board of Commissioners was the project sponsor and contributing sponsors included: Crystal Loon Lakes Recreation, Inc., City of Lake Crystal, Crystal-Loon-Mills Water Quality Association, Garden City Township Board, Lake Crystal School Board, Blue Earth County Soil and Water Conservation District, Blue Earth County Environmental Services, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Mankato State University, and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The purpose of this project is to obtain sufficient biological, chemical, and hydrological information to use in the development of an effective implementation plan. The desired results of this implementation plan include a reduction in the frequency and severity of algae and macrophyte bloom and in the amount of sediment entering the lake system, an improvement in fishing and other recreational uses of the lake system, and improved flood control.

| Data Summary |
Crystal Loon Mills Lakes Restoration Project, Phase I - Diagnostic (CWP) includes surface water quality data from the collection and analysis of in-stream and in-lake water quality samples representative of baseline conditions and storm events. Samles were collected at stream, tile and lake sites during the 1995 sampling season. Collection of samples occurred using grab sample techniques and automated sampling devices. Sample analysis includes the following parameters: Total Suspended Solids(TSS), Total Suspended Volatile Solids (TSVS), total Phosphorus (TP), Soluble Reactive Phosphorus (P-PO4), Nitrate/nitrite-nitrogen (N-NO3/NO2), Ammonia-nitrogen (N-NH3), Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Fecal Coliform Bacteria (FC) and Chlorophyll a (chl a). |
