Blue Earth County participates in the Minnesota State Climatology Office Rain Guage Network. Crystal Loon Mills Lakes Restoration Project, Phase I - Diagnostic (CWP) includes precipitation data gathered by volunteer rain guage readers and an automatic rain guage monitor during the 1995 growing season. SCMCCWPP sponsors a volunteer rain guage reader network. This volunteer rain guage reader network reports daily precipitation during the growing season (May through September) to their county Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). These data are sent to the Water Resources Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato, for entry into the Minnesota State Climatology database and for generation of contour precipitation maps. These data have been collected since 1992.

Crystal Loon Mills Lakes Restoration Project, Phase I - Diagnostic (CWP) includes surface water quality data from the collection and analysis of in-stream and in-lake water quality samples representative of baseline conditions and storm events. Samles were collected at stream, tile and lake sites during the 1995 sampling season. Collection of samples occurred using grab sample techniques and automated sampling devices. Sample analysis includes the following parameters: Total Suspended Solids(TSS), Total Suspended Volatile Solids (TSVS), total Phosphorus (TP), Soluble Reactive Phosphorus (P-PO4), Nitrate/nitrite-nitrogen (N-NO3/NO2), Ammonia-nitrogen (N-NH3), Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Fecal Coliform Bacteria (FC) and Chlorophyll a (chl a).Minneopa Creek Watershed Project includes surface water quality data collected for baseline conditions and storm events during the 1996 sampling season. Analysis includes the following parameters: Nitrogen (three forms), Phosphorus (two forms), Suspended solids, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Fecal Coliform Bacteria.
