MRBDC Minnesota River Assessment Project (MRAP): Land Use Assessment - Level III (Revised Methodology)

MINNESOTA RIVER BASIN DATA CENTER

Minnesota River Assessment Project (MRAP): Land Use Assessment - Level III (Revised Methodology)

Minor watershed number(s):   25161, 28006, 30024, 31047, 33070

This revised Level III Land Use Assessment is performed on the following minor watersheds: 25161, 28006, 30024, 31047, 33070.

The Level III Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) (Revised Methodology) of the Land Use Assessment component of the Minnesota River Assessment Project (MRAP) inventories non-point source as well as small-point sources of pollution within 37 select minor watersheds in the Minnesota River Basin. Potential small-point pollution sources include: dumps, wells, septic systems, tile intakes and outlets, feedlots, unique areas (such as auto body shops and golf courses), and gravel pits. The inventory process involves an interview of the landowner as well as a field survey of pertinent watershed areas to provide accurate and sensitive information about the minor watersheds. Development of the methodology is intended to give a comprehensive view of the minor watershed, with adaptability to enablea variety of small watershed assessments. Using the SWCD methodology, assessment of the 32 minor watersheds occurred during the 1990-91 biennium. The revised SWCD methodology completes assessments on five additional minor watersheds: 25161, 28006, 30024, 31047, 33070. The revised SWCD methodology allows greater database handling and improved geographic information system (GIS) capabilities. A best management practices (BMP) implementation plan, using the methodology and various parameters, is developed for each of the minor watersheds.
